KYCS Telematch- SMK St Joseph

18 July 2015, SMK St Joseph – An annual telematch organized by The Young Christian Student movement in SMK St Joseph.  The event was held to promote the KYCS initiative among students from various schools. Instilling leadership and teamwork were also part of our objectives for the telematch. SMK St Joseph’s students held the telematch under the supervision of their teacher-in-charge Madam Sii Siaw Zin. Seniors, previously YCS members from all over Kuching also contributed to make the telematch successful. There were a total number of 79 participants who took part in the event. They were from SMK St Joseph, St Joseph’s Private School, SMK Batu Lintang, SMK Batu Kawa, MRSM Kuching, SM Lodge, SMK Green Road, SMK Jalan Arang and SMK Kuching High. There were a total of 4 Game Stations for the first half of the telematch and a man hunt was conducted for the second. A photograph session was also conducted. To conclude the event, the participants took part in a water balloon war. It was a successful event despite minor setbacks and we hope in the future, we will be able to have the chance to do better in the event once again.

6th KAYD 2015 Roadshow at Holy Family Chapel, Betong, Sri Aman

Betong, 25-26 July 2015 – The 6th KAYD 2015 Roadshow was held at Holy Family Chapel Betong. There were 27 persons from Kuching (Promotion and Marketing team together with PYM’s) and 17 persons from St Jude Bunan, Gega joined the roadshow.

On 25 July, a convoy, Promotion and Marketing team together with PYM’s and youth from St Jude Bunan arrived in Betong around 7.00 pm. After had a dinner with ladies guild in Betong, Youth from Kuching and St Jude Bunan joined Taize prayer led by Deacon Robert Jissem and Youth from Betong. The program ended at 9.30 pm with a final blessing by Fr Martin Wong.

The KAYD Roadshow started on 26 July 2015 at 8.00 am with a Morning Prayer led by Ms Nina Gordon, one of the KAYD coordinators. The roadshow continued with an ice breaking led by Promotion and Marketing team and introduction to KAYD by Mr Cyril, one of KAYD coordinators.

Ms Lucy shared a short video about Christian Faith and led the youth to reflect on their faith; on how far they stand firm in their faith and how they put Jesus in their lives.

The roadshow ended with a Youth mass at 10.30 am presided by Fr Martin Wong and Deacon Robert Jissem. PYM St Jude Bunan hands over the KAYD 2015 cross to PYM Our Lady Queen of Peace Sri Aman during the procession.

Promotion and Marketing team requested to do the KAYD roadshow at Holy Family chapel Betong because of one reason; to gather all the Youth from Skrang and Seratok in Betong. As if the roadshow was held at Sri Aman, there will be a problem for youth from Skrang and Seratok to join due to geographically problem.

The upcoming roadshow and visiting of the Youth Cross will be at city parish, St. Joseph on this coming 9th August 2015, 1.30pm. And the cross will be hands-over by the PYM Our Lady Queen of Peace Sri Aman. It will be the last roadshow before the KAYD actual day.

Malaysian Catholic Campus Students’ Day 2015 (MCCSD)

St Joseph Cathedral,  ACCPC- with the theme ‘Be witnesses of Christ in your Campus Life- Called, Chosen and Sent’, taken from Act 22:15.  Student campus all over Malaysia gathered in Kuching. The camp was held from 14 July to 21 July 2015.

There were 4 priests, 3 sisters, 13 Youth ministers, 9 volunteers and 162 Students campus all over Malaysia under their own diocese joined the camp. The camp started with an Opening mass presided by His Grace Archbishop John Ha from Archdiocese of Kuching.

The purpose of the camp was to gather and share the experiences, concerns in their campus, and to build a network among the students. Besides, to create an awareness among students on their religious rights in their respective campuses through AUKU, colleges/university constitution & The Malaysian Constitution.

On 18 July 2015, the campus students have been sent out to do their mission trip. There were divided into 6 groups and been sent to Cheshire Home, Hospital Sentosa, Sarawak General Hospital, Sk St Andrew, HOPE and Kampung Seratau.

On 19 July 2015, A slot for Solidarity night organized by the students which their group need to do a performance. His Grace Archbishop Julian Leow, Fr Felix Au, Fr Sunny Chung, Fr Gregory Chan, Fr Larry Tan and few seminarians attended the Solidarity Night to support the students. Concluding mass on the last day was presided by His Grace Archbishop Julian Leow from Kuala Lumpur. The camp ended with a group photo with Priests, Sisters, and volunteers.

















Kuching Campus Ministry – Carwash Fundraising 2015

4th -5th July 2015, – Approximately 30 campus students from different campuses came for their Car wash Fundraising. The Car wash fundraising was held at St Joseph Cathedral, ACCPC area for 2 days. The Car wash was started at 11 am on 4th July and they washed more than 54 cars.

The last day of the Fundraising, the Campus students started their Car wash fundraising at 9.30 am while the owner of the car went for Mass. The purpose of the Car wash Fundraising was to cover the expenses for Malaysian Catholic Campus Student Day (MCCSD) which will be held in Kuching (as a Host) from 14-20 July 2015.
